About Hampden Public Safety
The Hampden Fire Department was established in 1925. Today the department consists of 9 full time firefighters, 20 call firefighters and emergency medical staff.
The Hampden Police Department was established in 1956. Today the department consists of 11 full time police officers, 5 reserve officers and an administrative assistant.
In 1993 the Department of Public Safety was formed placing the Police Department and Fire Department under the direction of the Public Safety Director.
Hampden Ambulance became part of the Hampden Fire Department in 1994. The duty firefighters man the ambulance 24 hours a day. We currently have 5 paramedics on the department providing 24 hour coverage.
Code Enforcement became a part of Public Safety in 2003. Since building and fire inspection work hand in hand it made since to have them working under the same department head.
